I really enjoyed the Surf Coasters
http://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-browse.php?collection=etree&cat=Surf%20Coasters

a surf rock band from Japan. They don't speak english very well, but they are TIGHT performers. Every note is spot on, super sounding, and just a great live show.

I also really enjoyed the 'Shi-tones' which I think is 3/4 of The Mermen
http://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-browse.php?collection=etree&cat=The%20Shi-Tones

so dig it! Grab the board and head to Zuma beach with these tunes blasting.

Also search the forum for 'surf' or 'surf rock'. there have been threads like this one in the past. I think 'Man or Astroman?' gets mentioned in these threads but some feel it isn't as 'pure' surf rock as Mermen / Shi-Tones / Surf Coasters are.

Shaka!

I've been loving the Surf Coaster shows on here as well... And I have a question for any other fans of the band... Is there anyway to buy some of their studio releases? I've looked around, but all the sites selling their wares seem to be in Japanese... Seems this band should have cds on American shelves...

Any thoughts on where I might look?

An English page for them http://www.poprecords.com/surfcoasters/ has a link at the bottom to "jpophelp". I think CD Universe has some including Samurai Struck.

Too bad this one doesn't list them in their catalog, worth a look for other interesting stuff: http://www.zptduda.com/

There is a Surf Compilation in there now.
I think it's quite new to the site.
Looking forward to DWNLOWding it.

Interested parties should look up THEHOUND.NET.
that's the site of The Hound, who was DJ at WFMU in late eighties/early nineties. He had a show on saturday afternoon
(or was it sunday?) and he played a lot of Intrumental music
-rock, Jump, etc. as well as rockabill/country/R N R/soul stomp/ obscureties,garage,etc.
Many of the shows are here in MP3 form (mono, with setlists)

On the plus side given the question, Man Or Astroman edges closer to punk than the Mermen!

There's also a Sub-Mersians section here, but no one has ever sent in any shows. (Shoutout to anyone who has one!)
